Hop 2 It Concrete & Remodeling believes construction is about more than concrete, tools, and job sites. We support programs that introduce young people to trade skills, safety, responsibility, and hands-on learning , right here in Topeka.
Youth Program
Teens & Tweens Boys , Cement Masonry
Hop 2 It is a proud sponsor of an 8-week intensive introduction to cement masonry, presented by the Kansas Industrial and Educational Institute of Topeka. The program is built for boys ages 12–17 and gives them real hands-on training in safety, tools, pouring, finishing, and masonry basics.
- Starting June 8, 2026
- Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays · 6:00 PM
- Ages 12–17 · 2 hours per meeting

- Week 1
Safety, Orientation & Tools
OSHA-10 safety, CPR/First Aid, PPE. Hand and power tool identification and use.
- Week 2
Site Prep & Form Setting
Reading blueprints, layout, measuring, forms for sidewalks/curbs/footings, site excavation basics.
- Week 3
Mixing & Pouring Concrete
Mix designs, hand and machine mixing, placing, consolidation, and proper pouring.
- Week 4
Basic Finishing Techniques
Screeding, floating with bull floats, smooth and textured finishes.
- Week 5
Advanced Finishing & Edging
Steel troweling, edging, joint control to prevent cracking, using finishing machines.
- Week 6
Concrete Repair & Specialty Finishes
Patching, sacking, rubbing. Decorative work: exposed aggregate, stamping, coloring, epoxy overlays.
- Week 7
Specialized Masonry & Curing
Block and brick basics. Curing methods, cold-weather and hot-weather concrete management.
- Week 8
Certification, Job Readiness & Final Project
Hands-on final project, resume and interview prep for union or private employment, performance evaluation.
